Heron, Meeting of the Waters, Killarney, Co. KerryTwo seconds. Maybe less. I was on one of the traditional open boats that run through the lakes of Killarney, drifting up through the Meeting of the Waters to photograph the Old Weir Bridge and those narrow channels where ancient oak woodland comes right down to the waterline. Soft overcast light, no harsh shadows. Good conditions for stonework and river, if not particularly dramatic. Then a heron launched from the bank directly in front of us.
