These are a distinct subspecies, smaller and more compact than their mainland relatives, perfectly adapted to life in the High Arctic. This one was shedding its winter coat in patches, with short velvet covered antlers just coming through. Behind it, the flat tundra stretches back under heavy overcast sky, pools of meltwater scattered across
